Marshall 1974x (2005): If I could only keep one amp this would be it. Let me clarify, the Princeton is my favourite amp because the sound is too familiar to me, it is much more portable, but it is also much easier to buy another one. Luckily, I don’t have to choose because those two amps pair so well together. When I bought this amp I was disappointed because it needed some work, but being a point-to-point hand-wired (in Britain) amp it is easily serviceable. After a bit of work and new tubes it has blown me away every time I use it. It sounds so good! If you get the chance to turn one up, do it! I don’t know how people handle 100 watt amps, because this thing is so loud! The Marshall 1974 is the amp that started the 18watt.com frenzy. Boutique companies started up just making this style of amp, that eventually prompted Marshall to re-issue these. I prefer the normal channel that only has volume and tone controls, set it and forget it.
